First Class is an exciting place to be. We are getting used to being at school until 2.45! That extra hour was very long and tiring for the first few weeks but we hardly notice it now.
Our school day is a busy day. We are learning lots of Irish and we are looking forward to meeting our friends from Rang IV next Friday for Cáirde Cainte.
We love the Bookworm Club everyday where we get new books to read at home. Our reading is coming along so much that teacher says we will soon pass her out!
We are learning the violin this year! Marian Ryan comes to our class every week and we are really looking forward to the concert we will be putting on in June for our families and friends.
We have visited the Science Room twice already and have done lots of investigations there. We even managed to make marla float – not an easy thing to do!
Our maths classes are very exciting also and we love discovering new things when we work with Numicon. Mr Burns has done some super games with us. We are getting really good at thinking out our answers and figuring out the solutions to problems ourselves.
Now that we know the Siege of Ennis and the Walls of Limerick we are ready to perform at any wedding or party we are invited to! Robbie Kelly has been teaching us these dances since September. Our favourite day was when we had a Céilí Mór in the hall and we danced the Siege of Ennis with the other classes. We were exhausted afterwards.
Our class tree this year is the Mountain Ash and we have visited the various Mountain Ash around our beautiful school. We love watching the changes in the colours of the leaves. It is hard to believe that soon it will be bare.
Yard time is possibly our favourite time of the day as we get to meet and play with all our friends from the other First Classes. We have a giant Connect Four to play with as well as hopscotch and skipping ropes. If ever we need to find somebody to play with all we have to do is stand at the Friendship Stop and somebody will come along and ask us to join in with them.
Our Visual Art classes can get very messy sometimes but we love all the cutting and sticking, collaging and painting, mixing and constructing, drawing and printing (not all at the same time of course!) We want to bring home everything straight away but teacher likes to keep them at school for a while to decorate our classroom.
There are lots of things to look forward to this year. We will be hurling after Halloween , playing basketball after Easter , visiting the Outdoor Classroom all year round and somebody said that when you are in First Class you go to Bunratty on a school tour!
Some of us were a little nervous coming to First Class but as our Alive O story said “ I wouldn’t go back now even if I could. This is where I belong with all my friends.”
